Use Battery Saver on a Pixel Tablet

Battery Saver is an optional mode designed to give you more time between battery charges. It restricts background activity, turns on Dark theme for menus, and disables some visual effects, features, and network connections. You can also schedule Battery Saver to turn on when your tablet's battery gets low.

Note: Some features are not available in all countries or languages.

Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 14 and up. Learn how to update your Android version.

Turn on Battery Saver or Extreme Battery Saver

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Battery and then Battery Saver and then turn on Use Battery Saver.
  3. Select the type of battery saver you want to use:
    • Standard Battery Saver: Limits visual effects and background activity and turns on Dark theme.
    • Extreme Battery Saver: Limits visual effects and background activity, turns on Dark theme, and pauses non-essential apps and their notifications.

Schedule when Battery Saver turns on

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Battery and then Battery Saver and then Schedule and reminders.
  3. Tap the option you want to use.
    • Turn on based on battery level: Turn this on and then drag the slider left or right to choose the battery percentage at which Battery Saver turns on.
    • Turn off at 90%: Turn this on to keep Battery Saver on until your battery charges to 90%.
    • Battery Saver reminders: Turn this on to get reminders on your tablet when the battery is low.

Change Extreme Battery Saver settings

To check and change what non-essential apps are paused when using Extreme Battery Saver:

  1. Open your device's Settings app.
  2. Tap Battery and then Battery Saver.
  3. Tap Settings next to "Extreme Battery Saver". To add an app to the essential apps list, tap Add next to it.

Important: Paused apps don't send notifications.

Add Battery Saver to your Quick Settings menu

When you add Battery Saver to your Quick Settings, you can turn it on or off without opening your Settings app.

  1. Swipe down from the top of your screen.
  2. Below the tiles, tap Edit .
  3. Find the "Battery Saver" tile and drag it from the bottom to the top.
  4. Tap Back .
  5. Tap Battery Saver to turn Battery Saver on or off.
When you turn on Battery Saver and the notification appears, tap it to set a Battery Saver schedule.

Turn off Battery Saver

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Battery and then Battery Saver and then turn off Use Battery Saver.
